From sahughes at sanguine.net Thu Feb 5 00:25:50 2009 From: sahughes at sanguine.net (Scott A. Hughes) Date: Thu, 5 Feb 2009 00:25:50 +0900 (JST) Subject: [sahughes-rpms 10] Time flies... Message-ID: <4416.61.115.7.227.1233761150.risu@webmail.sanguine.net> Quite some time has passed since my last posting. I had in fact at one stage considered dismantling the RPM mailing list(s - English and Japanese), but I have, however, been updating the RPM site and its directories from time to time, adding new RPMs and updating existing ones. These RPMs are mainly those that I have had reason to use myself or have provided to clients. http://ftp.sanguine.jp/pub/sahughes/rhx/ Largely thanks to the Fedora Project (which is sponsored and heavily supported by Red Hat), Red Hat's Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Fedora) RPMs are now of very high quality. They were also good in the days of Red Hat Linux, but they are now made with more precision than they ever were. This has also no doubt been enabled by the advancement of the RPM packaging software itself. In addition to quality, the Fedora Project produces an enormous amount of packages. I confirmed that there were 11417 in the most recent release, Fedora 10. Amidst this, however, I have become all the more convinced recently that custom RPMs are still sought after. An example of what has lead me to believe so, is that even if it is not necessary to create an RPM package from scratch, there are cases where it is convenient to be able to take the most recent package from Fedora and use it in Red Hat Enterprise 4 or 5. There are also packages that indeed have issues that may affect some usages or installations, and I make a point of fixing these myself when they are apparent. While my activity in this area is somewhat sporadic, it can be reasonably substantial at times. I sometimes spend days at a time on this kind of work, so I will try to post to this mailing list with a brief announcement when I upload new/updated/ported packages. I will be making RPM announcements in separate emails later tonight (JST). Cheers, Scott. -- Scott A. Hughes | BBus, BA, MComMgmt, RHCE, RHCX S. A. The only build uploaded is for rh4, but this RPM should build on the likes of rh5 without any problem. http://ftp.sanguine.net/pub/sahughes/rhx/ As the description in the package says: ProFTPD is an enhanced FTP server with a focus toward simplicity, security, and ease of configuration. It features a very Apache-like configuration syntax, and a highly customizable server infrastructure, including support for multiple 'virtual' FTP servers, anonymous FTP, and permission-based directory visibility. This is the most recent version of ProFTPD at this time. Below is an except of the more recent parts of the changelog. * Wed Feb 04 2009 Scott A. Hughes - 1.3.2rc4-1 - Update to 1.3.2rc4. * Thu Dec 04 2008 Scott A. Hughes - 1.3.2rc3-2 - Fix scoreboard problem by changing path in proftpd.conf. * Thu Nov 27 2008 Scott A. Hughes - 1.3.2rc3-1 - Update to 1.3.2rc3 in a desperate effort to solve problem where CPU is entirely consumed by ProFTPD. - Update version of mod_shaper module to 0.6.4. - Update default proftpd.conf file. * Fri Nov 21 2008 Scott A. Hughes - 1.3.1-4 - Add source of, and additionally configure with, mod_shaper module. http://www.castaglia.org/proftpd/modules/mod_shaper.html - Also configure with mod_ifsession. - Disable IPV6 support. - Rebuild on rh4. The changes/updates above were made based on the spec file/src.rpm provided/maintained by Matthias Saou. Cheers, Scott. --
